Government Jobs are available today. The Federal workforce has an average of 25,000 job openings per day. During the first week of February 2010, jobless claims were at 480,000.
The United States Government offers employment for more than 3 million employees, not including the military. Currently almost 50% of the Federal workforce is eligible for regular or early retirement. The government employs over 500,000 new employees, working in new jobs each year and continues to expand. Under the new administration, thousands of new positions are being created under the economic stimulus package.
The economy lost 85,000 jobs this past December 2009. The unemployment rate was again 10 percent at the end of December, remaining the same as in November. The unemployment rate is forecast to top 10.5 percent later this year. Job openings fell sharply to 2.42 million in November. That may not sound like a lot, given the depths of the recession, but it is the lowest number of position openings since July 2009 and the second-lowest since the Department of Labor began tracking the data in 2000. The competition is intensifying as companies are reluctant to hire new workers, leaving millions of unemployed Americans chasing fewer position openings.
